Opening Event
Yukoners create a new film festival
Whitehorse; September 4, 2009

On September 11th and 12th Yukoners will attend the First Annual 9-11 Film Festival. This festival will explore the incongruities inherent in the official version of the events of September 11, 2001. Nine films will be screened at Blue Feather Youth Centre on 2nd Ave. The festival is designed to encourage critical thinking by providing the Yukon public with information that is not readily available through mainstream sources.
Bill Polonsky, Patrick Singh, and Stephen Badhwar are joining forces to create the Yukon Independent Media Society. The 9-11 film festival will be the first in a series of events that the society will be presenting on a variety of subjects.
Each film in this festival will be followed by a general discussion. Presentations and workshops will round out the event. The festival starts Friday, Sept. 11 at 9:00 am and runs till 11:00 pm. It continues Saturday from 1 pm through to 11 pm. Admission is free.
For background information regarding the events of 9-11, and regarding the purpose and importance of screening films here in the Yukon on this subject, please find attached two articles written by Stephen Badhwar.

Things Come Together...
September 4th 2009
About a month ago, a chance meeting at the hot dog cart at Main and 3rd in downtown Whitehorse brought together three people. From this happenstancee, at the locus of tasty street meat, a germ of an idea began to form: take the ubiquitous conversations heard aroud the hot dog cart and move them toward wider participation. The Idea was to form an association of people to promote critical thought and discussion.
Within a very short time this germ turned into the formation of The Yukon Independent Media Society and a film festival. This website is a byproduct of these conversations.
Stay tuned: we are working on membershipa and networking. Drop us an email and tell us what you think.
